Economics is a b.s. major for people who want to do economic theory (mostly useful in government and banking). If you want a business background, go for business administration.
You should check the admission requirements of specific dental schools you are interested in – while they’ll have minimum university course requirements for biology, chemistry, and others, you don’t necessarily have to be a biology or chemistry major.
That being said, the top majors in this study of admissions to medical school were biology, microbiology, and biochemistry (chemistry, chemical engineering, and psychology next in line)
Actually I think you’d be better served by a small business type of a minor in place of economics. Running your own practice is different than larger scale economics would prepare you for.
And throw in a few psych courses for dealing with staff and terrified patients!
Dental school requirements are almost exactly the same as med school requirements. Your major doesn’t matter, but it’s often easier (or required) to be a science major to get into the required science classes.
Econ won’t help for what you intend. Think along the lines of business administration or management. Psych can be a good idea, but into psych classes generally don’t go into enough detail to be that helpful. They’re great GPA boosters though, as are many of the non-math business classes.
